Masons of Dallas Celebrate 175 Years of Dallas Freemasonry

Friday January 24, 2025, marked the 175th Anniversary of Tannehill Masonic Lodge No. 52 A.F. & A.M. receiving its charter from the Grand Lodge of Texas. Saturday January 25, 2025, the Masons of Dallas celebrated this auspicious occasion with the Brothers of Tannehill Lodge, our families, Brothers from across the State and multiple dignitaries from the Grand Lodge of Texas. We were privileged to hold this celebration in the ballroom of the former Masonic Temple which was built by Tannehill and Dallas Lodge's in 1913.
Below is an excerpt from the Speech given by Tannehill's Master, Brother Fred Sloan.
The formation of Tannehill Lodge was more than the creation of a Masonic body; it was a visionary act that shaped the very identity of Dallas. The men who established this lodge recognized the importance of shared values—integrity, charity, and brotherhood—in creating a thriving community. Their commitment has withstood the test of time, providing a beacon of hope and purpose for generations.
Imagine the world as it was then: Dallas, still in its infancy, was far from the bustling metropolis we know today. Yet these early Masons believed in its potential. They saw the possibility of greatness and laid the groundwork not only for a thriving Masonic tradition but for the growth of a vibrant city.
As we honor the founders of Tannehill Lodge today, and celebrate 175 years of Masonry in Dallas, we reflect on their determination, vision, and faith in the principles of Freemasonry. Their legacy challenges us to carry forward the torch they lit, building communities that value connection over division, hope over despair, and action over apathy.
Let us take pride in the heritage of Tannehill Lodge and its deep connection to the history of Dallas. May we continue to uphold the values that have defined this lodge since its founding on that January day in 1850. Together, let us ensure that the light of Freemasonry continues to shine brightly in Dallas and beyond, guiding and inspiring future generations.
