Masons Of Dallas, Serving Dallas
On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, Freemasons from all over Dallas came together at the Dallas Scottish Rite Cathedral to pack meals for the Dallas City Square food pantry. Partnering with The Pack Shack, a nonprofit whose mission is to supply provisions and opportunities for those in need, Tannehill Masonic Lodge No. 52, Highland Park Masonic Lodge No. 1150, Pentagon Masonic Lodge No. 1080, The Dallas Scottish Rite, and the Dallas York Rite Bodies set a goal to pack 20,000 meals in an hour and a half. With a minimum requirement of 60 volunteers and inclement weather in the Metroplex, it was not clear beforehand if there would be enough people to meet that goal. However, with the help of more than 90 volunteers, including Masons from 10 different Lodges and their friends and families, they were able to pack 20,350 meals!
Upon arrival at the Cathedral, volunteers were treated to a meal prepared by members of Tannehill Masonic Lodge. After dinner, everyone filed into the Crystal Ballroom where they donned hair nets and gloves and were assigned to a station. Everyone gathered around large, yellow funnels and waited for the gong signaling them to start. The next 90 minutes involved a well-orchestrated, energy filled assembly line involving upbeat music and cheers as the team reached milestones of 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, and finally
20,350 meals packed!
The Brothers of Tannehill Masonic Lodge would like to thank the members of Highland Park, Pentagon, Ferris, Jewel P. Lightfoot, Mike H. Thomas, Roy Stanley, Northern Star, Dallas, and Irving Masonic Lodges for their attendance and enthusiasm in this effort. A special thanks also goes out to the Dallas Scottish Rite for donating the space for the event.
Hunger is an ongoing problem in our community. If you are part of an organization looking for a fun and rewarding way to make a positive impact, contact The Pack Shack and schedule a Feed the Funnel party.
